We focus on gaining knowledge about the development and the potential prevention of type 1 diabetes. Therefore, we study the molecular mechanisms of the pathogenesis, particularly the interaction of environment, genetics and the immune system. We aim to identify markers for early diagnosis and to develop therapies for the prevention and cure of type 1 diabetes.
